Over the last two and a half years, A1homes Wellington has happily supplied KitHomes to Habitat for Humanity for their build projects. The first two A1homes KitHomes supplied were built at a shopping centre in Whitby before being transported to their permanent sections.
The most recent A1homes KitHome we have supplied is being built at Whiteria Community Polytec by the trade students. This is the first that the Polytech and Habitat for Humanity have worked collaboratively and it is benefiting both parties greatly.
We are now in the process of supplying Habitat for Humanity with their fourth A1homes KitHome which is to be built at the McDonalds site in Porirua. This house, once completed, will be transported to it's final home on a section in Westmeath Street, Porirua.
There are many ways in which you can get involved with the Habitat in the Lower North Island, for example:
Habitat for Humanity has opportunities for you to get involved in all aspects of the operation, including working with families in housing need, land acquisition, building projects and planning, fundraising and local community liason.
If you are a qualified tradesperson in any building related area, they would love to hear from you. As they increase the number of families served they need more skilled tradespeople to lead builds or the teams that work on them. Help for a day, a week or the entire project.
